About Us

I’ve always been interested in fixing, and repairing things, driven by a curiosity to understand how things work, and if they don’t work to understand why not. From an early age, I used to watch my Dad (a skilled fabricator) work on cars and aged 10 I used to find or trade bicycles to recondition, repair and advertise in the local shop window.

My technical career started at the University of Sheffield, Department of Chemistry, where I trained as Technician, where I developed a good understanding and hands-on experience of analytical instrumentation and laboratory research (a lot of it learning how to operate and maintain a Kratos MS25!). I spent several years working in the University’s Mass Spectrometry Service and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate students with their academic discovery and research.

I later joined Micromass UK and gained international experience working as a systems engineer installing AutoSpec instruments all over Europe and multiple trips to Japan, USA, South Korea, Egypt, China and Colombia. This later culminated in a position with Waters UK, primarily acting as an on-site engineer at Pfizer, Sandwich for almost ten years.

I eventually settled in south-east London, and after 20 years of working in academia and industry, I decided to set up NPL Technical for a better work/family-life balance.

“I have been using the services of NPL Technical for a number of years – highly recommended! Their expertise and knowledge is phenomenal, and I particularly admire their honesty on costing and feasibility of repair. The rates are very competitive, they attend site quickly and NPL Technical have also managed to source rare parts for technically ‘obsolete’ equipment.

I have also purchased pre-loved equipment from NPL, as I know that they will only supply equipment of quality.”
